From June 20 to 24, San Giovanni - St. John's Festival is back! Food stands, live music, stalls and magic: five Summer days of fun in downtown Cesena.
Cesena patron saint's festival, a very important occasion for the people of Cesena and the visitors who annually look forward to June 24 to kick off the summer, is one of the most heartfelt moments in the city during the year, when the treets are filled with merriment and liveliness, with the booths of the fair vendors coloring the historic center, as per tradition.
The ancient St. John's Festival has been documented since 1638, but the roots of this festival go back to the ancient tradition of Summer Solstice celebrations.
Symbols of the feast of St. John, which still remain in tradition, are garlic - used as an antidote against the evil eye, witches and vampires - and the fragrant lavender, joined since the early 1800s by the famous red sugar whistle, usually in the shape of a goose or cockerel: a sweet tribute for one's beloved, unsurprisingly characterized by the color of passion.
As part of the fair's events, and as part of La Notte Rosa - The Pink Night Summer Festival, this year features the Rockin'1000 Flash Pink Choir: on Sunday, June 22 an event to celebrate music as a universal language, in a fun and inclusive atmosphere, where the goal is to sing together.
