Riccione

Situated on the Adriatic Riviera of Romagna, Riccione is bordered by Rimini to the north (10 km) and Misano Adriatico to the south (4 km).

Why visit it

One of the most famous seaside resorts on the Adriatic, Riccione is renowned for its trends where fashion, elegance, a sparkling atmosphere and life’s pleasures immediately win over visitors.

The heart of the city is Viale Ceccarini, known for being a crossroads of fashions and trends to be discovered among boutiques and clubs. The pedestrian promenade is an unmissable place to experience by day and by night, on foot or by bicycle. The beach is equipped to meet the needs of every tourist; the theme parks make it a favorite destination for entertainment.

At sunset, Riccione's movida comes alive in the clubs on the beach and at the mouth of the Marano, in the discos in the hills.

When to go and what to see

Riccione is a pleasant tourist destination all year round, with a wide and varied tourist offering, excellent accommodation facilities and open to new holiday demands. It is also known as the Green Pearl of the Adriatic, for its tree-lined boulevards and architectural structures surrounded by well-tended green spaces.

The walk to discover the city starts from Viale Ceccarini in the name of shopping and fashion and arrives in Piazzale Roma, where the colours of the Rain Forest, Tonino Guerra's fountain, mingle with the blue of the sea.

The town also has something for those who want to visit places of cultural interest. Villa Franceschi is an early twentieth-century building that houses the Modern Art Gallery and on the seafront, not far from Viale Ceccarini, stands Villa Mussolini, once the seaside residence of Mussolini himself, which now hosts exhibitions and other cultural events all year round. There is also the Villa Franceschi chalet, home to the Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery, and Villa Lodi Fé, another fine building from that period with an important historic garden.

Near Viale Ceccarini, in the Piazzale of the same name, is the Palazzo del Turismo, dating from 1938, the first structure on the Adriatic designed to promote tourism and entertainment.

In the old town, Riccione Paese, the Territorial Museum invites you to discover the ancient past, with archaeological materials and environmental reconstructions from prehistoric to Roman times, skeletal remains of an imposing prehistoric bison and elephants, bears, rhinoceroses, and megaceroses that lived in the area thousands of years ago.

Climbing the hill, the panoramic site par excellence is the Agolanti Castle, built between 1324 and 1343 by the Agolanti family, vassals of the Malatesta family, lords of Rimini. Recently restored, it hosts exhibitions and cultural events.

Recently built, the futuristic Palazzo dei Congressi is an ideal venue for conferences and events.

Do not miss

A visit to the parks is a must! Each year, Aquafan attracts crowds of young people and families for a day of pure fun in its pools and on its slides and water games.

Next door is Oltremare, an extraordinary journey through the wonders of nature, with a dolphin show at the end.

On the table

In Riccione, food is traditional. Although the piadina is the undisputed queen, visitors shouldn’t leave before trying homemade pasta, such as tagliatelle, tagliolini, strozzapreti or tortellini with fish sauce, wonderful grilled fish or fish soup in one of Riccione's many excellent restaurants.

The inland area produces excellent extra-virgin olive oil, tasty salamis and typical local wines such as Sangiovese, Pagadebit and Trebbiano and Albana or Cagnina - ideal for cakes and desserts - which can all be bought from several local vineyards.

Fun

Riccione offers lots of places where friends can get together or visitors can meet new people, for a fun evening set to a variety of different music. In particular, the famous discos in the hills, like Cocoricò and Nu Echoes, welcome young people all year round, whilst the nightspots concentrated on the beach in the Marano area, near the border with Rimini, are the place to be in the summer.

Keep Fit

Since the 80s, Riccione Terme has successfully developed its spa activities using spring waters for various treatments. Just a stone’s throw from the sea and set in a 40,000 m² park, the spa also has a beauty and wellness centre.

The Swimming Pool Complex offers excellent facilities with two Olympic-size pools, one indoor and one outdoor for the summer, and various diving boards. It is open to the public, except during competitions, courses or team training.

Main events

At Easter, Riccione inaugurates the tourist season with spectacular events. In July, Ciné takes place, with several days dedicated to cinema; in the heart of the summer Radio DeeJay brings the summer holidays to life with live radio shows and concerts, and all year round, the Swimming Pool Complex hosts national and international events. "Backlit Dawns" are concerts on the beach at sunrise.

Nearby

Providing a wonderful panoramic balcony overlooking the Riviera, the Castle of the Agolanti - liegemen of the Malatesta family - stands on the hills behind Riccione. Recently restored, it hosts exhibitions and other cultural events.

Situated on green rolling hills, other places worth visiting include the villages of: Montefiore Conca (20 km); Mondaino (22 km); Saludecio (20 km); and Montegridolfo (25 km).
