Le Pagine di Dante a Longiano

Dante's pages: an exhibition of dantesque gems at the Malatestian Castle 700 years afer Dante's death

On the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's passing, Fondazione Tito Balestra - very important permanent art collection set up in the Malatestian Castle -  pays tribute to Italy's supreme Poet with a precious exhibition: Le pagine di Dante – dantesque gems of Angelucci's donation, set up in the converted church of Madonna di Loreto, near the Castello Malatestiano of Longiano.

The exhibition is developed on four routes:

  • Dante by images: from nineteenth-century illustrators to Cochrane
  • Dante in Romagna
  • Dante in History: from the sixteenth-century editions up to the present day
  • Dantesque celebrations of 1865, 1921 and 1965.

Visitors will admire, among others, a 1542 Divina Commedia edition, a very rare paste-up of etchings made by Luigi Nuti to a design by Giovanni Flaxman, various nineteenth and early twentieth-century editions, documents and essays of Dante's centennials.
And a real rare gem: the Divine Comedy completely hand-copied and illustrated in a graphic novel style by New York artist George Cochrane, made with the aim of summing up 700 years of arts inspired by the Divine Comedy, from Michelangelo to Gustave Doré, from Sandro Botticelli to William Blake, looking at the future of new generations, in a lively and accessible style.
