MARE MAGNUM: From Ferdinando Scianna to Martin Parr

An exhibition dedicated to the great American photographer

The sea and the beach, symbols of escape and freedom, have become the stage for a new, extraordinary and previously unseen exhibition of photographs: MARE MAGNUM: From Ferdinando Scianna to Martin Parr will be at Villa Mussolini in Riccione beginning on 19 April.

Curated by Andréa Holzherr, the exhibition presents the works of eight great photographers from the Magnum Photos agency: Ferdinando Scianna, Bruno Barbey, Bruce Gilden, Harry Gruyaert, Trent Parke, Olivia Arthur, Newsha Tavakolian and Martin Parr. Through the perspective of their lenses, the public will be able to explore the many facets of life on the beach, where moments of happiness and play alternate with moments of isolation and reflection, creating a visual narrative that reveals the human condition in a universal setting

In this exhibition, faraway seas converse with the Adriatic Sea, pictures brought together from different corners of the globe intertwine with the history and identity of a city that has always experienced its relationship with the sea as an essential element of its culture. With Mare Magnum, Riccione becomes a cultural crossroads, where photographs by Magnum's greatest masters permanently record the fascination, contradictions and beauty of beaches around the world. Because, if every beach tells a story, it is in Riccione that these stories meet, mingle and reveal themselves in all their expressive power.

Opening hours (19 April to 22 June 2025):

• Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

• Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The exhibition is promoted by the Municipality of Riccione, with the patronage of the Emilia-Romagna Region and is organised by CIVITA Mostre e Musei in collaboration with Magnum Photos and Rjma Progetti Culturali.
