Saludecio

In this part of the Seignory of Malatesta the hills are gentle, with long ridges ideal for building castles and villages combining defence with the best of civic development. From 1500 to 1800, Saludecio was the most important centre in this part of the Conca Valley.

Why visit it

On this side of the Malatesta Seignory, the hills have a gentle, elongated profile, ideal for building castles and towns in which defensive purposes and civic development coexisted and gave their best.
Such was the case for Saludecio, which, from the 1500s until the 1800s, became the most important town in this part of the Conca Valley. A small capital where refined palaces and hamlet hovels created a style that was both popular and noble at the same time, which has remained intact to this day.

A large church, almost a cathedral, dominates the square; a small but well-kept museum tells the story of the town's art and history; the walls are surrounded by tree-lined avenues and gardens; and the inner streets come alive during the summer thanks to a series of festivals and celebrations.

Do not miss

Porta Marina and Porta Montanara, 14th cent
These are the main entrance gates to the village, two beautiful and perfectly preserved structures dating back to the time of Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, which, with the walls surrounding them, gives us an idea of what the overall fortification of the village must have been like.

Village murals
50 murals on the theme of the 1800s and the most important and curious inventions of the 19th century. Painted on the walls of houses in the characteristic alleys, they form a polychrome and original en plein air museum and attract the attention of thousands of tourists every year.

Museum of Saludecio and the Saint Amato Ronconi
A very interesting museum of sacred art where sacred furnishings, ex-voto vestments of excellent workmanship and, above all, paintings of great artistic value, including 2 Cagnacci, Il Centino, C. Ridolfi, etc., are preserved.

Biagio Church
It has rightly been called the cathedral of the Conca Valley, not only because of its
size, its fine 18th-century architecture, the Crypt, a rare neoclassical jewel, but also for the remarkable heritage of works of art it holds and the presence in the same building of the remains of the much revered Saint Amato Ronconi.

Keep Fit

There are interesting walks in the area around Cerreto Castle and in Montepetrino towards the Ventena Valley. A well-kept countryside offers fine views, especially in spring and autumn. Excellent routes for hikers and mountain bikes.
